![]() Perform the following with all equipment completely disconnected from the AC line until told to connect it. You need to apply power to determine the voltage of each winding. There are probably at least two, perhaps more. The next highest resistance should be the primary. The highest resistance should be the high-voltage secondary. Write down the resistance of each full winding (maximum reading if more than two wires). Some windings will have only two wires, while others may have three, and the primary may have more (not likely). Group the wires together for each of the several windings, identified with an ohmmeter. Number each wire with a tag that won't fall off or fade. Or the manufacturer may not have used industry-standard wire color codes in the first place. The colors may have faded or changed over time. NEVER believe the color code on vintage transformers.
